The preparation that was required for this assignment is what truly set me up for success at the career fair. The career fair was a great learning experience and allowed me to test out some of my business communication skills. In the following paragraphs I will explain how the career fair helped expand my career opportunities, my knowledge, and my interviewing experience.
The interview questions that we answered before the career fair in order to prepare for the career fair helped me put my business communications skills to use. Answering possible questions that an employer might ask at a career fair helped me feel much more confident in approaching employers. For example I walked right up to Quicken Loans table as soon as I got into the career fair, introduced myself and handed the employer my resume, and he began to ask me questions, sure enough he asked me “What is a weakness that you have, and what are you doing to correct it?” Luckily I had already practiced this question before coming to the fair. I got phone numbers from multiple employers, and was even offered an opportunity to come in for an interview for a summer internship. Without the preparation that was required, I would not have been as successful with my conversations with employers. My success with my speaking skills made me a great candidate for employment. I am still undecided of my major, but opportunities for employment from a few different firms will allow me to narrow down the exact area of business I want to major in. I truly am grateful the career fair was a requirement, because it helped me more than just with my business communications class, it helped me with my future
