Childhood obesity is an intricate health issue which is a growing problem among U.S.A. Over the last fifteen years, obesity in children has increased by fifty percent. It’s a serious health and societal issue rising at an extreme rate and therefor it’s an important issue to highlight. Obesity has not only made our children lazy but our nation as well. Childhood obesity may result in serious medical problems such as heart disease, cancer, gastric reflux, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes which is one of the worst disease a child can have and stroke which are life threatening often trouble adults, are the major consequences of childhood obesity (CDC Grand Rounds). 70% of obese child had at least 1 cardiovascular disease risk factor and 30% …show more content…

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Body mass index (BMI) is a measure used to determine childhood overweight and obesity. Overweight is defined as a BMI at or above the 85th percentile and below the 95th percentile for children and teens of the same age and sex. These are all to some or greater extent responsible for this fast inclination of obesity among children, which reduce our ability to main a healthy body weight. The researchers at University of Sussex found that the intergenerational transmission of BMI (Body Mass Index) is approximately constant at around 0.2 per parent -- i.e. that each child's BMI is, on average, 20 per cent due to the mother and 20 per cent due to the father (University of Sussex). This gives me the opportunity to prove that inorganic food that are low in nutrition and high in sugar do not only effect children but an adult as well. Those adults lead their lives to have kids which makes obesity a intergeneration
