The Dr. Larry Crabb book “Effective Biblical Counseling” is a great work for the Christian community. He explores four different approaches to integrate the Bible and counseling strategies to bring believers closer to God. Dr. Crabb has ordained the local church as a ground to have God’s people ministered to through scripture. The church must assure that all leaders are trained to a certain degree in the area of counseling.
I, Demetri Tolbert, am a Point University alumni who graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Child and Youth Development. I am applying for the Masters of Divinity program because I believe the program will provide an opportunity for me to further my knowledge in ministry to not only build an effective ministry, but to grow people in the knowledge of God. On December 31, 2015, I was ordained as a minister of the Gospel under the leadership of my pastor, Bishop Frank McLeod. As I have grown up in and around church, with both Baptist and Pentecostal backgrounds, I have experienced great denominational divide in the body of Christ. However, I know God is too great to be confined within denominational constructs.
Those individuals who have hit rock bottom or are in the pits of despair, truly need to not only hear the Word of God, but also need to learn how to apply the Bible to their lives. Connecting to these individuals is not only about teaching God’s Word, but also being a reflection of him. Exemplifying God’s love to them and
I have always had an interest in the ministry of Jesus Christ. I grew up in a Christian church as a child and when I was 19 I was ordained as a minister of the gospel. I never want to stop growing and maturing in the word of God. I seek to take advantage of Regent University’s in-depth understanding of the Old and New Testament. I am looking forward to taking my theological studies to a brand-new level.
After completing my B.S in Community Human Services at Empire State College, I felt extremely fulfilled in my accomplishment. I felt like I did accomplish my ultimate goal which was becoming qualified to work with Juveniles in the system to help make a difference in their lives. I thought I could have been a unique asset to the system where I can be of assistance in problem solving alongside my affiliates and bosses working together in unison to accomplish the same goal, which is to be effective administrators to foster growth and productivity in the lives of the youths. However, I quickly learn or come to a realization that our children of tomorrow need more than just an attentive ear, a shoulder to lean on, and an empathetic individual. In
I had the privilege to work jobs that led me to help and reach a lot of students. After being able to help fellow students, I realized helping people is what I wanted to do for a career. I graduated from Mid-America Christian University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in the spring of 2017.
I have taken part in many spiritual growth opportunities over the course of my life. The home school education my parents have blessed me with since second grade has enabled me to study hard, while learning in a Christian atmosphere. For the past nine years, I have attended Bible Study Fellowship which has helped me grow deeper in God’s word and my love for Him. Bible Study Fellowship’s rigorous
As I look back from childhood until the present, I have helped my family and friends through the unpredictable nature of life, including trauma, medical conditions, marital events, and grieving. As I reminisce about these events, I see Christ’s hand in them all. I want to help people understand that Christ is for us and not against us. I feel our world today is taking God out of everything, and I want to bring His meaning into everyone—one person at a time. As far back as I can remember, when someone asks for my advice, my heart supersedes my mind, free of judgment and preconceived notions; my heart flows out with the Lord’s compassion, understanding, and love.
I have created my personal website on my current work/occupation and discuss how this program and class have prepared me for my next chapter as a model and stand-up comic, as well as how the Christian worldview has enhanced my educational experience. I have acquired useful skills from this program and class that I may utilize to advance my career in any field I choose. Personally, I have been working in the entertainment sector and intend to keep moving in this direction. I have gained knowledge about the value of good networking, branding, marketing, and communication, all of which will be crucial in the pursuit of a career as a stand-up comedian, actor, and model.
Personal Theological Perspective Paper When looking at one’s personal theological perspective in this society, one will understand why and how their culture is important to them in their daily life. Truly, every person lives in a society of different culture background. To define what theology of culture is, lecture 3, (2016), stated “It is a process of developing a paradigm of how culture works in the context of understanding God, the church, and the Bible”. In other words, there are different cultures that are preach differently from other cultures when it comes to understanding God, and the Bible and having those standards in place.
I am applying for the Community Foundation scholarship. Growing up in middle Tennessee has been a blessing for me and my family because of the many opportunities that the region offers. During high school, I participated in youth orchestra programs in Murfreesboro and Nashville through the Blair School of Music. I was accepted into the Music City Girls Lead program at Lipscomb University, where I learned valuable skills in leadership and connected with inspiring women in the area. Through this program, I was referred to Rutherford Cable, a networking organization for women in the Rutherford Country and middle Tennessee area.
My primary motivation to pursue a masters in clinical counseling or marriage/family counseling is that I feel that is my calling. Upon completion of my degree, I intend to get my license and begin practicing. After I have a good grasp on the field, I want to open my own practice and potentially grow it into an agency. This agency would work alongside local churches and provides professional counseling. I also seek to be ordained in the United Methodist church as a Deacon.
To enhance my experience I would like to work with veterans, adult homeless, and the mentally ill. My objective is to be admitted into the Master of Science degree program with an option in Rehabilitation Counseling, where I can grow and take on new challenges. Ultimately, I would like to assume further educational and gain work experience that would allow me to work more effectively with people with disabilities. Most importantly, I would like to work for an agency where I can build a career in counseling and possibly management. I am driven to be the best at what I do.
My Conversion Testimony When I was young, I attend church with my neighbors and friends. When I became a teenager, my parents made me go to church. I loved church so I did not have a problem going, but I did not know the reason for attending church. I did not have a personal relationship with Jesus. After I became a young adult, I started partying and I did not want to go to church.
