As a hopeful forestry major, I would like to attend a school that is accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF). I also want to live in the west coast, preferably in a more northern area, because my family lives there and it is somewhere I really enjoy. All of my college choices are coed, middle to large in size, and forestry accredited. I will also be filing a FAFSA to hopefully receive financial aid and scholarships. Because I am looking for a school far from home, my college also needs to have some sort of housing opportunity.

The main school is in Flagstaff, but many students can enroll in NAU classes that are offered at other colleges. NAU offers standard admission as well as early action for 4 terms (spring, summer, fall, winter), but each term has a separate tuition. One tuition payment pays for a specific number of class hours, and extended hours cost more. This college gives admission to any applicant with all the requirements of testing and classes and with a standing GPA of 2.5 or higher. Freshmen are required to live on campus and are allowed to have a car for a $50 parking pass. Because I live on the east coast in close enough proximity to Maine, I can be offered reduced tuition. UMaine is a land-grant/sea-grant university which means that it was created under the Morrill Act in 1862 so that “average sons of average citizens” could learn the “agricultural and mechanical arts” and military sciences. As far as life in Orono, in 2010 Maine was judged to be the happiest place to live in New England and 10th overall in the country.
