Prior to my arrival at UBC, I was unsure about the specifics of what I want to study. I knew I wanted to innovate, create, and theorize many things, which is why I decided to come to UBC and study engineering. However, despite my passion for engineering as a whole, the fact that engineering contains several different fields completely filled me with anxiety in the beginning of the year. I was left lost, and had no idea of what I wanted to specialize in. As a result, I challenged myself to achieve the best grades my intelligence would allow me to reach, while making note of any specific part of the program that further peaked my interest in the program. As second semester continued, I found myself in love with the course material of PHYS 158 and APSC 160. I have also recently built my own personal computer from store-bought parts, which made me question how such easily separable parts are able to communicate with each other …show more content…

Furthermore, I believe I will excel in upper math courses due to my motivation to study computer engineering, and my first-year mathematics course marks are both well above average. Additionally, in APSC 100 and 101, I was often the team leader for projects and contributed as much as I could to ensure our project's success. As a leader, I also motivated the team to share my views on the importance of working efficiently and teamwork. My peer evaluations and marks in both APSC 100 and APSC 101 are reflective of my efforts and leadership put into these courses. While I also excelled in several other courses, these courses did not interest me as much as PHYS 158 and APSC 160. My sessional average grade supports the fact that I am capable of both studying efficiently and working hard. As a result, I believe my skills as an engineer and as a student will allow me to succeed in the computer engineering
