Math has been one of the most critical subjects to me, ever since I started school. At a young age, I could easily remember the difficult times I had to endure just to solve a problem. My elementary years were not the best chapters in my life, I was not the smartest kid in school nor was I placed in advance classes, I was an average student just like everyone else. To Further go into detail, math is one of my favorite subjects following with literature and history, I was always fascinated with numbers, puzzles, and how objects work together and how it could be applied to mathematics. I enjoy challenging myself and working under pressure when solving problems, once I solve the problem and get the right answer, I receive a feeling of accomplishment …show more content…
Parra Alvarez was my 4th grade math teacher, she was a very subtle individual and enjoyed explaining math and the concept behind it. I was not her top grade student in her class but she understood my disability and throughout the whole school year she stayed after class and explained each equation I had problems with until it was embedded in my head. She gave me the confidence to never second doubt myself by the words she said “ Everyone was born equal everyone has the same opportunities so don’t you ever feel like you can’t succeed remember, hard work always beats talent”. After that everything started to fall together, I attained confidence on my work and received better grades the following year. This was essentially where it all started and without her I wouldn’t know what I’m truly capable …show more content…
My first pick is mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering primarily deals with design, construction, and the use of machines, they also use algebra, calculus, and physics. The reason why I chose this pathway because, mechanical engineering has plenty of opportunities across all fifty states, and has a stable employment rate compared to other engineering careers. However, Petroleum engineering has been a part of my life ever since I was a kid, my dad has been working in oil field for about twenty years and I would like to continue the tradition. Texas let alone Houston, is an oil capital in the United States, we produce more than Alaska and California combined. In other words, petroleum engineering is kind of like playing in a casino, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but in reality, life is all about taking risks. Another career pathway that I also consider is civil engineering, civil engineering mainly focus on the design, function and maintenance of bridges, roads, dams, canals and buildings. I remember at a young age I would build highway like structures with wooden blocks and lego’s, I would spent countless of hours in my room building such designs just for amusement, now I could actually apply my imagination in a career pathway. To Summarize, there are many options that I could choose from, it just really leads up to my
