What were your goals of the first session?
My goals for the first session is to obtain and gain an understanding of the client’s presenting problems and concerns. I wanted to understand the client’s pattern of negative behavior. I also wanted to understand why the client chose to participate in counseling and what events in her life have contributed to her current issues. For the first session, I wanted to focus on gathering information so that the client could set goals on what she would like to accomplish in counseling.

The client’s depiction of anxiety world indicates she has generalized anxiety disorder. Symptoms of her anxiety include racing thoughts, racing thought, increase in heart rate. The client expressed her anxiety is due to the unknown of the future. The client is a 35-year old single female currently in her first year of nursing school. Client states she has anxiety about school, marriage, career changes, and grandchildren. Client states, “I am 35 and I am not married or have any children. I am getting old”. CBT would be an effective method to drive the client's treatment because this approach to therapy helps clients understand the cause of their anxiety. After learning the underlying factors of anxiety the client will be able to learn and utilize coping strategies to manage her anxiety and in time experience a decrease in their symptoms of anxiety. CBT will help the client to eliminate distorted thoughts and negative behaviors when experiencing anxiety and feelings of concern. Using CBT the client will understand and recognize the distorted thinking has a negative effect on their feelings and emotions. The client will learn the difference between reality and negative thoughts. CBT has many therapeutic strategies for cleits to utilize and practice to reduce their
