Philosophy of Teaching

I highly value education. One of my goals as a teacher is to help students understand that if they succeed in school and work hard they can go anywhere in life professionally. In my academic work I have come to fully believe that “success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.” I want to help young students come to that conclusion also. I want to create an interactive, engaged classroom where students can fully understand the lessons being taught and how they apply to real life. As an educator I want to inspire in students an excitement for learning and the value accomplishing true knowledge in a subject.

Students need to work with materials, discuss ideas in small groups and see a wide variety of examples to fully understand the ideas being presented to them. Technology is a very useful tool and should be utilized effectively. I will incorporate audio-visual aids, such as power point slides, hand-outs and video clips in my lessons to better facilitate the learning process. I will also encourage the use of available software to demonstrate where resources can be found. I believe that understanding and effectively utilizing technological instruments is vital in our society today. I intend to demonstrate and then work with the students on effective searching, gathering and interpretation techniques while students use technological tools to explore solutions to current issues. I will not depend on technology as a teaching tool I will integrate its use in my classroom as an additional learning
