Cocaine, also called crack or coke, is an illegal, strong stimulant drug made from coca plants. During the 1960s and 1970s, cocaine and other addictive drugs were common among rock and roll and pop artists. As common as they were, several artists had easy access on obtaining those illegal drugs. Several artists, such as the Kurt Cobain, Brian Jones, and the Beatles, were known for their drug abuse and addiction. David Bowie was one of the several artists who abused drugs and became addicted to them. Although Bowie was just one of the several artists who were addicted to drugs during the 1960s and ‘70s, he had the most abnormal behaviors and beliefs among those drug addicted artists, was one of the fewest of those artists to actually survived and withdrew from drug addiction, and wrote admirable, euphonious music and performed astonishing concerts while under the influence of drugs. …show more content…

Ziggy Stardust was the beginning for Bowie’s heavy tour schedules, in 1972. Just in the year 1972, Bowie had nearly hundred concerts. Not only did he have concerts but he also began writing the “Aladdin Sane” album (which was later released on April 13, 1973) during his tour. His intense tour schedule continued on for his albums, Aladdin Sane and the Pin Ups. Crazy amount of works can make anyone feel exhausted, stressed, and wanting to depend on someone or something. As for many artists, the endless tour schedule and works were certainly one of the factors that caused Bowie to get into cocaine. Bowie also states that “The only kinds of drugs I use, though, are ones that keep me working for longer periods of time.” His usage of drugs was not for placebo or pleasure but to work longer without
