Descriptive Essay: The New Physical Abuse

The New “Physical” Abuse For years there have been banters about what type of abuse is most harmful; physical or verbal. The choice almost everyone picks is physical because why not? Physical harming has to be worse than just a few words that were said, right? As years have passed, more and more photos and images of kids being bullied and abused have pop up with little thought bubbles that say what they are thinking. Most of the time you see words like “stupid” and “moron” in the thoughts. There are some pictures that have no bubbles. There are just words floating around the child; overwhelming and consuming them. An example is the image of a young boy shown being almost choked by the words that were given to him. This image of verbal abuse being thrown at the boy combines a somber image and grim words to show how it can be just as harmful as physical abuse.
At first you notice the crying boy. He has no clothes. His hair is strewn up like it hasn’t been brushed in a while. Terror is written on his face plain and clear. But what is he looking at? We don’t know. There is another image that you notice next though; the imaginary …show more content…

The gray background leads to a solemn and gloomy tone. They boy is also bare. His clothes are missing. This shows a level of vulnerability that can be compared to the level of vulnerablility that can only be reached by verbal abuse. Physical abuse can always be avoided. Fighting back or defending yourself is an option. With verbal abuse, the words said by others can creep into the smallest and darkest places of the mind. They linger there forever and you will always think of them. Physical marks and scars will fade away into nothing, but hideous words put upon people stay there until the person starts to wither away. Many of these things lead to depression and anxiety which are more examples of how verbal abuse is just like, or maybe even worse than,
