When going into the field of an Early Childhood Educator there are different values that one should have. In my opinion Early Childhood Educators should have foundation skills of how children learn, should know how to support diverse knowledge, should be able to model the correct language, should have classroom management skills, and should be able to create a safe environment for all children. According to the NAEYC core values Early Childhood Educators should base work on knowledge of how children develop and learn, which goes with my first opinion with Early Childhood educators having the foundation skills of how children learn. Because children are still in the process of learning to distinguish between food and other objects that are not to be eaten it can result in causing confusion in the young learner so therefore it best not to use food items for eating as art materials. Also art work such as paintings and collages that makes use of food can most definitely not be displayed and kept for long periods of time as it can attract insects and go off or moldy. My educational philosophy has been in development for 15 years. It is a product of my own experiences in school, as well as my opinions on what skills should be taught, and to what extent different components of the child should be developed. The academic, social, emotional, and cognitive development of the children can be heavily influenced in PreK and kindergarten classrooms. It is dependent on the teacher to conduct their classroom in a manner that successfully facilitates the development of each child’s faculties. As a future teacher, it is critical that I enter the classroom with a clear philosophy in regards to how I believe education should be conducted.
There are people who think that a good teacher is born, not made many indisputable views. Teaching is definitely something that most people can do; but effective teaching, creating a desire for knowledge of the students, this is a gift, a few people have. Early Childhood Education is a hotbed of mind provoked teen enthusiasm and creativity. The teacher may be a child who began to expose a new concept, so thinking clearer, brighter their young minds. That is why there are adults who can immediately recalled their kindergarten teacher's name, because they left such a lasting impression and long-reaching, their lives and their ideas.
As a young child, I would pretend to be a teacher and model myself after the different teachers I had and would say I’m going to treat/not treat my students like this teacher does. My educational philosophy has been going on for the last 15 years. I started off as a parent, volunteer, substitute teacher, co-teacher and now a teacher. While continuing my education my teaching skills and knowledge continue to grow and improve each semester. Throughout my educational career, I have learned a lot from my professors.
I am incredibly grateful to have received this scholarship. I am currently on the way to graduate with my Early Childhood Education degree in the spring of 2018. It has been a bit of a rocky road for me in my college years; I support and live by myself, and the cost of paying my tuition has weighed heavily on my shoulders. By being selected to earn this scholarship, I can now focus more on my education instead of my financial issues that comes with paying tuition.
