Because of the diversity that exists among our student population, it is important to offer an education that meets those diverse needs. This includes fostering an appreciation for the unique qualities students bring to the school community. Through working collaboratively in the classroom, students grow both academically and emotionally as they achieve project goals. In order to meet student needs, teachers must be prepared with the latest in professional development strategies to differentiate instruction among all learners. It is the responsibility of the district to provide comprehensive professional development and resources equitably to the teaching
I will actively challenge my students in content and provide them with resources specific to their educational needs. Middle grades instruction is of particular
As an educator, my mission is to support and promote academic excellence for all students. To foster an environment that keep children engaged and interested in learning math concepts while exploring the world around them. Remembering to balance the needs of my students by using as foundation Common Core and Standards for Teaching Mathematics. When planning assignments, and implementing a lesson from a place of equity, each student will obtain an equal outcome, respecting the value of diverse backgrounds and life experiences. I will create an environment where students are welcome to research innovative strategies, with a “hands-on” approach to learning.
The power of education beings with a great foundation. I believe that we are all born with an innate drive to learn and every child should have the opportunity to experience the power of education in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment. For this environment to be successful, I will provide students with the space to express themselves, opportunities to explore their curiosity, and ¬experiences in which they are able to grow as individuals. It is my goal, as an educator, to help students discover and foster their ability to learn and build upon their foundation of knowledge. To achieve these goals, it is important that I first understand the role schools within society, the role of students, my role as an educator, the design of my curriculum/classroom management strategies, and the role of parents within my classroom.
I am an educator, of education, my role is a surrogate parent, a disciplinarian, mentor, counselor, role model, and planner. My philosophy, is to live and teach by these concepts in order to produce productive students of society. As a surrogate parent, I will be there to console students when things go wrong and praise, and encourage them when great things are achieved. Being a disciplinarian, I will hold each student accountable for their actions to ensure they learn a valuable lesson. The counselor role will allow me to interact with the students in a way where they feel comfortable to express feelings.
As a future educator, I am most passionate about creating a safe environment for my students by incorporating culturally responsive practices and social justice into my classroom. As a woman who struggled with anxiety throughout my childhood, I understand the value of inclusion, respect, and equity in teaching. It is imperative to offer students with a safe haven during their formative years in which they are free to make their own opinions and formulate their own unique personality based on their life experiences. In America, we are fortunately surrounded by many different types of people and in the face of such diversity, unite together to form one nation. In light of the divisiveness of our country, it is incredibly important that student's
Two years ago I was hired full time as a social studies teacher in the Enfield Public Schools system in Enfield, Connecticut. This culminating event came after years of higher education and paving my way as a substitute and long-term substitute teacher. I am now writing to you today to describe my current working environment and my intentions for applying to the off-campus Master’s program at the University of St. Joseph. I am looking to earn my M.A. in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction.
I have always wondered when I would finally feel prepared for my future career as a primary educator. In a world with so much diversity, school needs to serve all students equally, by accommodating to individual differences. This issue is constantly overlooked, and students fall through the cracks for not fitting into perfect molds, predetermined by the dominant culture. As a pre-service teacher, I am a blank slate that has been etched with my past experiences. These inspire me to reinforce what worked in my schooling, and work towards positive change from what did not.
I believe it is my job as an educator to not only teach the core curriculum but to teach students to become productive members of our society. The teaching style seen in my classroom will closely resemble the way I am raising my own children. Every moment is a teaching opportunity and every child has the potential to accomplish great things. My goal is for my students to know that they are capable - capable of doing many amazing things I want my students to learn how to think for themselves.
The main purpose of education is to ensure that the youth of today grow up to become individuals with the competence to live morally and productively in our society. Their foundation has been set with the tools needed in order to become their best self. Portraying qualities such as; professionalism, respectfulness, dependability, dedication, determination, humility and accountability. All of which, is modeled and learned from teacher’s with the passion and drive to make a difference.
As a future educator I believe it is important to be working towards building your students’ principles and character along the lines of Kohlberg’s Stages of Moral Development. As a teacher, it is my goal is to have my students grasp and advance through all five stages of development. Children need to learn be accountable for their actions and choices at a very young age and I believe it is my job as an educator to help guide them to understand why their actions have punishments and how should they avoid this. I believe good behaviors and actions should be rewarded, but it is important to avoid an attachment for rewards. To move them to moral understanding and obedience, it is important to have the students learn from each other while also building a teacher-student relationship.
I structure my teaching goals after keen observation of each students strengths, weaknesses, and learning patterns. I want to help students build their fundamental foundation for future learning throughout their career. I want to get the best out of each student so they can become independent and formulate their critical thinking skills. I encourage each student to be an active learner and reader. I strongly believe traditional classroom teaching alone is not enough to achieve excellence.
Personal Philosophy Every child is unique with different needs and learning styles. As an educator, I believe that teachers are facilitators in the process of learning. I facilitate children depending on their abilities and learning styles. As an educator providing a safe, conducive and stimulating environment is my priority to develop a child holistically.
Teaching philosophy is described by Sadker and Sadker as, “Behind every school and every teacher is a set of related beliefs - a philosophy of education – that influences what and how students are taught. A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the purpose of schooling, a teacher’s role and what should be taught and by what methods.” (Teacher, Schools and Society. 2005). With this definition in consideration, my teaching philosophy is “I believe that children learn best when they are given the chance to choose, discuss and explore what they want to learn, when they want to learn and how they want to learn.
