Education was a primary probably in the 1960s (Civil Right Movement) for African Americans. African Americans needed help with boosting their self-esteem up. Teachers jobs were to produce academic excellence for their students. Teachers needed to reinsurance students that they could indeed do the work “feel good”. Culturally relevant teaching was the key academic excellence for students. For example, a teacher that goes by the name Ann Lewis, force a great deal of attention on a young African American boy in her classroom. Mrs. Lewis challenge the young boy to demonstrate academic power; the young boy took on the academic power and was able to become a role model for the other (African American) students in his classroom. Mrs. Lewis founded a way to value their skill and abilities and channel them in academically important ways (page 3). Culturally relevant teaching believe students should maintain some cultural integrity also. Fordham and Ogbu believed that African American go through point in live call “acting white”. In which African American students fear being ostracized by their peers for demonstrating interest in and succeeding in academic and other school relate tasks (page 4). Some believe that school is a hostile place and an
