The United States of America is one of the richest countries in the world, yet our education system falls drastically behind other developing countries. In most countries, education is the most important factor but for some reason the United States doesn’t feel the same. There are many factors that contribute to our failing system: lack of qualified teachers, lack of funding, and declining interest in education. Teachers are overworked and underpaid making the position less desirable to the most qualified. Every year, there are budget cuts that affect the quality of services that the school provides. We as a society equate education to being successful, but our children lack the desire to learn. The question is why? In my opinion, our society has removed the creativity of learning and replaced it with standardized testing. Our education system is molding students to be good test takers but not helping them retain the information that’s being taught. This method is being taught from primary up to the high school level and its quite damaging. The pressures of passing the standardized tests have taken a toll on both the students and teachers and it shows with the scores. Instead of correcting the issue, our country placed a bandage on the problem which is better known as the No Child Left behind Act. Instead of going back to the fundamentals, we allowed the problem to get bigger.
The best way for students to learn is in a safe environment and learning from a professor that is eager to teach them. Students should be tested solely off of standardized test since everyone learns differently. Students should learn the basic fundamentals of math, reading and
