From the very first step I took into Fordham until the end of my first year, I have found CSTEP to be a home away from home. CSTEP has helped to guide me through the various challenges presented by college, while allowing me to make myself in such a fast paced environment. Th irreplaceable support it has offered has allowed me to succeed thus far. Being a part of the CSTEP Internship and/or Summer Academic Program will help me take a large step towards achieving my goal of becoming a physician. As of now, I know that I definitely want to become a physician. As a pre-med student, I believe it is imperative to start exposing myself to the different fields of medicine as soon as possible. To me, optometry always seems to be brushed over when it comes to medicine. I want to see what optometry really has to offer to a medical student. The very fact that there is a distinction between medical school and optometry school clearly indicates that optometry has an entire world full of knowledge that is waiting to be spread to students willing to learn. Medicine certainly has many options for students to look into but we are truly exposed to them once we are in medical school. For students like myself, who enjoy and love to experience the behind the scenes action, this opportunity would be the perfect fit. I have previously volunteered at a hospital and was able to shadow gynecologists, allowing me to gain a true understanding of how their day to day schedule worked. The opportunity made my love for medicine only grow larger because I got to experience what doctors get to do on a first hand basis. Having this opportunity in another department of medicine will only open my mind to another field of medicine that I could possibly pursue. It is an opportunity that I most definitely want to be a part
