Personal Narrative: My Visit To The Gym

SO YOU WANT TO BE A POWERLIFTER? So the New Year is here and you made a promise to yourself to start going to the gym and start an intense fitness regime that will turn you into the young stud you think you ought to be. You went ahead and paid for membership at the closest commercial gym and was there at an early 6am on the first Monday of the year because #Dedication #NewYearNewMe #GymLife. Upon entering the gym you were surprised that you weren’t the first one there, even though you reported in at the advertised opening time; 6am. There is already a couple people in the weight room, and one person on the treadmill already sweating. He must have been here for a while already. “Is he insane?”….. You watch in horror as he paces back and forth breathing hard and grunting like a silver back gorilla trying to send a territorial message. His eyes look bloodshot and full of rage. Suddenly he stops pacing right at the foot of the loaded bar lets out a loud bellow then grabs the bar and literally rips the weight off the ground, standing up with it in his hands as if gravity were some sort of childish fiction in his world. You watch in awe, mesmerized by this monstrous show of brute strength. The loud clang the weight makes when he drops it back on the floor jolts you out of your stupor and the earthquake-like reverberations you feel in the floor from the impact confirm that ‘this is not a drill!’ It was the real thing! The reverberations seem to travel up your feet through your legs finally transforming into a shiver that runs up your spine. The guy working out next to you notices your mystified look and leans in and whispers “Don’t be scared now…. That’s just our resident powerlifter.” At this point you realize you are no longer interested in your chest workout… now you just want to do what he just did. Now you just
