Marijuana is a scheduled 1 controlled substance that is made from the dried leaves, steams, and seeds of a cannabis sativa (hemp) plant. It is a mood altering drug, that is made up of over 400 chemicals, the key chemical is delta-9-tetrahydro-cannabinol otherwise known as THC. Marijuana is used for recreational use but is also used for medicinal use as well, it is known to ease nausea and vomiting from chemo patients, helps with nerve pain, epilepsy, and many other chronic disorders. Marijuana has been around for a very long time but it just recently got legalized for medicinal use in 23 states and recreational in 5 states. I feel that marijuana isn’t a dangerous drug, and should be legalized in every state, but still be regulated like alcohol. If marijuana was legalized, people would have to be at least 21 years old to be able to purchase it, and people would be able to buy it from safe places. Buying it from drug dealers or people that you don’t know puts people in dangerous situations and could potentially put them in the presence of other drugs that they might be tempted to try. With marijuana being illegal it makes it more valuable, people can buy and sell it to friends for money, by legalizing it people would have less incentive to sell it. Colorado was the first state in the world to legalize marijuana and by 2015 the state collected 9.7 million dollars in taxes related to marijuana sales, which was 5 million dollars more then the same month of the previous year. This money could be used to fund many government projects, such as school construction, law enforcement, youth programs, and drug education initiatives which is what Colorado has been using their tax money
