I am Michelle and are currently working on a Master’s degree in Marriage, Family Counseling. In Spring 2015 I graduated with a Bachler’s degree in Criminology option Victimology. Prior to attending Fresno State I started off at Merced College. I spent three years at the junior college where I obtained an Associate degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Throughout school I have learned that I enjoy helping others especially children and women. Once after I was done with school at the junior college level I transferred to Fresno Stated I felt confused and was informed that at the CSU level I had to specify in my degree and select from the following option. I am the first in my family history to attend a university and never having the proper guidance I was thrown into the CSU school system. I felt scared and intimidated to this big chapter in my life. For two years I commuted to school two days a week. I was committed to receive my degree in two years therefore, I attend summer and winter sessions. The professor’s in the Crim Department were excellent. Their expertise, background and form of teaching made my school experience a wonderful experience. CSU Fresno has countless of intelligent professor who truly want to see student succeed. By my third semester when I started taking the victimology course I realized my calling, which was to help victims. One professor motivated to go into and serve victims. Professor Walker who is now retired was passionate about what he taught. Through his career gave back to victims he even went on missionaries to other countries. Once I arrived to the locations I seen posters bring awareness to human trafficking, sexual abuse and domestic violence. Since I didn’t do my research on the agency I felt puzzled. Through course previous and currently taken I had some knowledge of victims for crime. I knew about the “Cycle of Violence” which was created by psychologist Lenore Walker (Cite) followed by victim’s rights. With the little knowledge I had gained from CSUF I nailed the interview and was able to complete my internship at VCC. Valley Crisis Center was created to provide refuge for individuals whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence and sexual abuse (Cite). VCC was established in 2008 and since then has been providing legal assistance, counseling, and immediate shelter for those in danger (Cite). They operate through an office located in Merced which runs Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. A trained advocate is reachable through a crisis line which is available 24 hours for victims in their time of
