Many consumers tend to find themselves at their local supermarket. Considering that these stores are in numerous communities, it is clear that many local consumers will shop at these supermarkets due to their convenience. However, what many consumers need to be more aware of and convenient with are their local Farmer’s Markets. These are markets where local farmers tend to sell their meats, fruits, vegetables, and other goods to consumers. Residents of communities are either not familiar with Farmer’s Markets, or they choose not to attend, which might not be good for them. Buying foods and other goods from Farmer’s Markets have many more benefits than buying food from a local corporate supermarket. Apart from having healthier and more nutritious food, buying from Farmer’s Markets also contributes to the local economy, helps the environment, and proves to be much safer and reassuring. …show more content…

One reason the food is healthier is because it does not travel such long distances. As Briana Ryan stated in her article, Why is Local Food Healthier, “Local food doesn’t travel long distances. That means it can be ripened as nature intended and picked when its nutritional value is highest.” Especially at Farmers Markets, the food is usually picked within one day of the market which guarantees fresher and healthier food. Also food at local Farmers Markets tend to be cheaper than food at large supermarkets because they are sold directly to the consumer (Ryan).
