In 2015, The Entertainment Software Association published that 155 million Americans play video games regularly and 42 percent of them play games at least three hours a week. In addition, Netherlands game company’s research indicates that 1.2 billion people around the world are enjoying video games (Takahashi, 2013). Above numbers lead to the conclusion that video games are taking a huge part of people’s life and related industry is bigger than we thought. However, these numbers are not one hundred percent truth when they come to the console gaming industry. Gaming industry consists of three huge parts: Pc games, console games and mobile games. People use cellphones to contact each other, collect information without using laptops and also to play games. Using phones as a portable console, the console gaming industry has to add this new technology on their rival list. In the article from CNN, Snow pointed out that phones are one of the reasons why people quit playing console video games. Snow says since people enjoy mobile games such as Angry Birds or Candy Crush Saga, they lost interest in console games which are much more expensive than games based on cellphones platform (Snow, 2012). A marketing specialist Lofgren says “The industry expected that revenue from smart phones and table titles will continue to grow, reaching 30.3 billion dollars in 2015.” She also added that since mobile games users spend average five dollars in-app purchase, 30.3 billion indicates incalculable number of people use their phones to play games (Lofgren, 2015).
