New media reforms the way people see and learn about the world. It is basically changing the way we communicate and the way we are discovered both positively and negatively. YouTube is one of the most popular social media websites that provides an opportunity for people all over the world to share and connect. It allows people to create and upload videos about anything they want and also lets others view, like and share their opinion about the videos; however, it is almost human nature for people to abuse their privileges, and often times websites such as YouTube are almost wrong in giving people the option to comment on a video. People upload videos about the violent actions they commit or the violent actions of others on YouTube, encouraging the people watching to want to try these harmful stunts, thereby inflicting injury on themselves. Others upload offensive videos about some culture or religion that some people find disturbing, which eventually causes the viewers to rampage and hurt others in the process. It is easy to take advantage of the freedom to express ideas. Often people believe in themselves so much that they feel the need to try and influence others. The number of deaths was exaggerated, there were a lot of edited false images leaked. Over time, it got hard to separate rumors from facts. This led to so many miscommunications and inaccurate details of what was really going on which was appalling.
Also, unauthorized videos being shared can lead to copyright and other criminal charges. Some videos cannot be completely deleted i.e. someone else can share the video before it is deleted, leaving a copy somewhere else. There are also so many unaware security risks to be exposed to on YouTube. YouTube is not all bad, it has a lot of positive effects. YouTube is cheap and easy, the service is clean and clear, it has a wide variety of videos, infomercials, how to videos and much more. It also helps to stay updated with what’s happening in society, it helps in expressing creativity and getting to know people and learn about new things. YouTube can get a good deal of information to a lot people in a short amount of time. Also, becoming a member is easy, and it saves money on marketing. Despite the positive effects of YouTube on society, the few negative effects can be catastrophic. New media users go a step too far sometimes, which ends up leading to major damages and can alter the way society
