Agency Mission
Florence City School’s mission statement is to “empower students to explore, create, challenge, innovate and lead.” I particularly worked alongside Ms. Sonja Croone, Florence City Schools Title I Social Worker. Title I’s primary goal is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on state academic achievement standards.
Population Served
Title I assists students in K-8TH grade to meet performance standards in the areas of reading and math. These K-8th graders are targeted all across the Florence school area. Therefore, all students in the Florence city limits can receive services from Title I employees, as well as utilize the materials, software, computers, and more.

Florence City Schools have five distinct federal funded programs in its department: Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title X. The bureaucratic structure consists of 6 districts, 7 board members, and 1 board member per district. The Federal Programs Department consists of a director, a secretary/bookkeeper, Title I Social Worker, and a Hope Program Social Worker. Including teachers, assistants, and administrators involved in the programs and schools.
Staffing
The Florence City Schools have 7 board members: District 6 Board President Brad Dethero, District 4Vice-President Bill Gullett, District 1 Board member Vicky Kirkman, District 2 Board member Bill Jordan, District 3 Board member Bill Griffin, District 5 Board member Laura Hardeman, and the seventh board members name is not given. The Federal Programs Department is ran by the Director Mrs. Anne Behel, the Secretary/Bookkeeper Mrs. Diane Wesson, the Title I Social Worker/Parent Involvement Specialist Ms. Sonja Croone, and the HOPE Program Social Worker Mrs. Mary Lee Dobbins.
