The Sierra Club is a nonprofit environmental organization. It was founded in 1892 by John Muir. The Club’s mission statement is, To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives. Organizations that operate for-profit healthcare argue that they offer patients more options and flexibility. On the other hand, nonprofits claim to provide a superior patient experience and are more cost-effective. In keeping with their charitable mission and community focus, nonprofit hospitals are often affiliated with a particular religious denomination. For-profit hospitals are either owned by investors or shareholders of a publicly-traded company. For-profit healthcare entities are more likely to prioritize treatments that generate higher profits, such as open-heart surgeries.
The structure of HOPE will be a nonprofit agency. Being an extension off of the Louisiana State prison system, HOPE will be categorized as a non-profit agency. Any of HOPE’s remaining income will be put towards achieving our goals of helping inmates reintegrate into society successfully and HOPE’s advocacy for policy change (Hansmann, 1980).
