What is something that can appear entertaining but in reality is dangerous? In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the character Victor Frankenstein is consumed by the thought of being able to prevent death. To do so, he begins to research and experiment how to bring a being to life. Frankenstein had successfully brought a being to life, however he saw this creation as flawed and the creature so became it. The creation had begun to murder humans in contempt for Frankenstein. In today's society, this would not be possible, however there are many inventions that society has made with good intentions but have turned out to be dangerous. So what are these inventions? One example of this show is in the article “The People Onscreen Are Fake”. The “Disinformation Is Real” is when deepfake technology is “used to distort public figures, like a video that circulated on social media last year falsely showing Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, announcing a surrender” (Mozur and Satariano). This video circulating the internet could have created unsafe conditions for both sides of the Ukrainian-Russian war, showcasing how risky it is to have this type of technology around the internet. In Frankenstein, a type of information that was false that was dangerous for the people involved was when the monster had found a girl in a barn, it had turned out to be Justien Morizt, the servant of the Frankenstein family after murdering the brother of Frankenstein, William. When the monster found her, he was angry because he had realized that the human race would never accept him because of his appearance, and he assumed that she would also not accept him, leading him to become more angered. This led him to “[place] the portrait securely in one of the folds of her dress” which was something that William was wearing before he died ultimately framing Justine for the death of William (172). This led her to get arrested and given the death penalty, leading to the sorrow of the Frankenstin family.
