It is time for gay marriage to be celebrated. I think it is wonderful that the United States is finally catching up to other countries, like Canada, in legalizing gay marriage. Whether a person is gay, transgender, heterosexual, etcetera, they should have the right to get married if they so choose. People of the LGBTQ community should not have to live in fear as they so often do. As the country progresses, there is improvement, but there is are also people are not ready or willing to change their way of thinking. We are all entitled to our own opinions, but we should not let said opinions infringe on others rights. For example, county clerk Kim Davis took it upon herself, as a born again Christian to deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples. By doing so, she was not acting within her rights as she was infringing on others and not doing her job. Though she herself, when scrutinized had been married four times, a hypocrite unto herself.
I am unsure of why it took so long for gay marriage to be legalized if it came down to a religious issue because there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. This issue came up many times in whether gay marriage should be allowed, but if

There are many acts of violence committed against the LGBTQ community. There are enough cases that some still feel the need to keep it secret. I think that it is very sad that they have to hide themselves in order to be/feel safe. In more conservative communities, if it found out that a person is LBTQ they are treated as a pariah. The legalization of gay marriage should be a happy time for all involved including heterosexual people. We should be celebrating that people are becoming equal to each other and lifting each other up instead of putting each other down.
