Gay Marriage
Marriage is a promise to be there “in sickness and in health”( Raunch, Jonathan). It is a promise to be there for each other in good times and bad (Raunch, Jonathan). In the words of Jonathan Raunch, “There should be one and only one kind of marriage, which is open to all couples, regardless of sexual orientation.”( Raunch, Jonathan). The privilege of gay marriage might seem like a controversy that has only sparked in the recent years. What people do not know is that this subject of matter has been being fought for decades.
Fifty years and plus some, gay marriage was extremely looked down upon (Klarman, Michael J.). It was outlawed in every state (Klarman, Michael J.). Every legal authority that had the power to object did not for they agreed (Klarman, Michael J.). Doing so creates a second class of citizens; decreasing their worth and making gays seem unimportant, which is unfair to do to anybody ("Gay Marriage Pros and Cons."). Bisexual, heterosexual and same-sex couples should all have equal rights ("Gay Marriage Pros and Cons."). In order for them to be equals, all different types of couples should have access to the same benefit that marriage offers ("Gay Marriage Pros and Cons."). Many cases against gay marriage almost always follow along the lines that the concept of traditional marriage is between one man and one woman ("Gay Marriage Pros and Cons.").
