This paper explores five general psychology course concepts observed at Saigon Oriental Restaurant’s Employees and Customers (SOREAC). This is a Vietnamese restaurant which is owned by a Vietnamese family, Mr. and Mrs. Bui. They are following the family style concept to operate the restaurant. I have been working there for two years with other servers and the kitchen staff. As an observer, I notice that there are some psychological factors explaining the behaviors of both the employees and customers. They will be discussed here. They are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. I had a short conversation to understand how satisfied the owner and the employees feel about this job. Who is the happiest person in the restaurant? There is no one but the owners. Obviously, they make profit every day, and it is considered the reward from running the business for more than twenty years. However, it is not the main reason for them to maintain their business for a long time. Above all, they have the “intrinsic motivation”. Intrinsic motivation refers to the behaviors that are driven by internal rewards (King 338). They enjoy what they do and feel the happiness from the inside. They like to talk to customers, especially people that they have known for more than twenty years. This makes them feel close to their customer. Strangers become their friends.
