As a parent a fear of mine is that Genetically modified organisms are unhealthy and are endangering the future of all children. Genetically modified foods should concern parents given that GMO’s cause health risk. There is also a fear that GMO’s are bad for the environment and unnatural. Many parents should be aware of what GMO’s are capable of and the dangers they provide and this essay will give parents all the information that is needed. Some critics who study GMO’s are aware and concerned that they could cause health risks. Peter Tyson’s article, “Should We Grow GM Crops?”, points out that there may be new allergies coming from GM foods: ”Critics of GM foods feel the possibility exists that those genetically modified food crops may unintentionally …show more content…

Nature created the food that we eat today without GMO’s for a reason. Certain people may find offense to this being a natural food consumer or grower. Tyson also says in the article, that GM crops are unnatural : “ If nature has spent millions of years building a structure with natural boundaries, it must be there for a purpose. It is there to guide the evolution of life and maintain it’s integrity.” This quote means that nature created foods that are natural, safe ; healthy for the human body to consume. People feel trusted to feed their children the natural foods that grow on Earth everyday and people are being objectified on what they like and trust to feed their children and families. GMO foods are taking over and are questioning parents on whether or not they are okay to eat. In the article , Tyson also wrote that GM foods are going against culture and religious beliefs: “The reliable qualities and properties of food have allowed it to play a role in rituals and religions. Altering food may deprive believers of the assurance that food is pure and kusher”. Genetically modified foods go against religions and cultures of all kind and people will find this offensive and will take away their personal beliefs on what food means to them. People fear that GMO’s will harm wildlife. “ One of their greatest worries is that GM crops will harm wildlife”. This quote is a fear that people all over the world have. GM crops could lead to children and the future to not being able to have the kind of resources that we have today. They wouldn’t have the animals and plants that we have today all because of GMO’s. This could really affect the future in a harmful way. In the article, that Tyson wrote, “ Should We Grow GM Foods?”, He wrote that side effects from GM foods can not be predicted: “Unrelated multiple side effects of introduced genes cannot be predicted”. To parents, environmental activist , and people who genuinely care about our environment will find this scary not knowing what GMOs can cause and how dangerous they really are. Feeding these to your children and family could be a scary thing not knowing how dangerous GMOs can really be.
