Please consider this letter and attached resume for the Graduate Assistant position at the Office of Inclusive Excellence Student Success and Leadership Development at the University of Denver. I attained my degree last spring in psychology from Metropolitan State University of Denver and worked at the institution during my final two years as an undergraduate. Throughout my collegiate experience, I have had the pleasure of mentoring a diverse student population through my on-campus jobs and involvement in student organizations. I have used my own diverse characteristics, such as being a first-generation student and proficient in both English and Spanish, to assist a larger group of students and guide them toward their goals by committing to their success.
I recently worked for the Scholar Success Program at MSU, which encompassed student success and leadership. Within the Scholar Success Program, I had a caseload of students-primarily low income and first-generation- that I thoroughly monitored their finances, grades, and program participation. As part of my senior thesis, I conducted a study on individuals who identify as LGBTQIA and people of color. I focused on self-efficacy and analyzed this community’s needs. Relating to higher education, self-efficacy is critical because this population faces many barriers that prevents one from completing a degree, leading to a lack of examples to follow. I noticed patterns in my results that I could use to assist this population in higher education.
