Habitat For Humanity For The Past Couple Of Months

For my community engagement project, I chose to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity for the past couple of months. Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide non-profit organization that helps families and community members improve, build, and renovate places that they call home. Habitat does this by helping fight homelessness by building affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity is able to do this by having the future homeowners and volunteers (myself) build the house with no labor costs and no interest in making the home more affordable. Not only does Habitat reduce cost by having volunteers/no labor costs to decrease price, they also are able to get materials at reduced price and charge no-interest on mortgage payments, making it more accessible to …show more content…

Like stated above, the major impact Habitat has on the community is the creation of affordable housing for families/individuals in need. Habitat is also able to increase community engagement within the community as well as being educational. Habitat can take on an educational role by having volunteers help build the house so they can learn lessons/skills they normally would not have had if they weren’t involved in house construction. Along with this, different individuals in the community are able to come together and learn what it is like to be a team, as well as growing more relationships with those in the community. Next, Habitat for Humanity can also help “revive” neighborhoods that are falling apart by building new and affordable housing to make the neighborhoods safer and better places to live. Although there are many more impacts that habitat is able to have on the community, another major one is through the health/well-being of those moving into the house. By creating homes that are safe, affordable, and stable it lets the homeowners have one less thing to worry about in our society, so they can focus on their job and not have to worry about going home to an unsafe house or a house that is “broken-down.” Overall, Habitat for Humanity is able to have a large impact on the
