At the end of the 20th century, the personal computer was envisioned as a device for every family and business, providing real-time access to information and tools to empower users and create insights into everyday life. In promoting such a promise, technology companies watched the world flock to them, in the days of proprietary terminals, floppy disks, and 56 kilobit-per-second connections. Personal computers were an innovation that was going to bring a better life in a way equivalent to electricity or the automobile, but to improve our ability to find and analyze information.
While this goal has been realized to an extent, rapid innovation in the technology industry during the subsequent quarter-century extended this mission far beyond the personal computer and to devices that previously could only be fathomed in sci-fi culture. The program also allows students to apply for grants for study abroad and conferences. This would be beneficial for me if I am invited to the Access Network Assembly that I may attend as part of RIT IMPRESS, or security conferences such as Shmoocon as part of RC3/SPARSA.
The Honors Program would further my developing qualifications in the cybersecurity industry by increasing my qualifications for the Bachelor of Science/Master of Science degree in Computing Security. The BS/MS program at RIT would not only save me several thousands of dollars as compared to a typical Master of Science degree, it would also allow me to gain the degree in a slightly shorter amount of time. Earning an MS degree would open more opportunities for advancement into upper-level positions, almost guarantee job security, and even provide the option for pursuing a Ph.D. if I choose to do so in the
