Before embarking my journey at Howard University, I often battled with what I wanted to study. Although I chose my major prior to attending, I did not have much reasoning behind why I chose Business Management besides the fact that I want to one day run a non-profit organization. I also questioned whether this was the right major for my career goals. I did not know anyone who majored in business and I did not realize how broad a business degree can be. The purpose of this journal discusses the interaction between the chief financial officer (CFO) and managers who either are or are not family members. I chose this journal to include in this resource guide for freshmen because family businesses are very popular around the world. With the statistics being so high, showing that there is a large number of family businesses, there is also a good chance that students in the school of business are also looking towards continuing their family’s legacy. This journal is very important to those who plan on working for their family business because this journal details the interaction between family and non-family members. More often than not, not all the employees will be family members, so it is important to know if that interaction will be healthy for the business. This journal demonstrates one of the many routes a business student can take when studying business
