A mission statement is a statement that communicates group’s purpose to others. It contains the following aspects: what will be done, for whom it will be done and how it will be done. It expresses the direction of the group, demonstrates commitment to serving others, is inspirational and action oriented. A vision statement on the other hand outlines the highest values and aspirations of a group. The vision statement creates a visual image in the readers mind and is expected to be clear and concise (Maine University, Bulletin #6107). According to the International Technological University website (2015), the mission of the institution is ‘to provide superior graduate education, research, and innovation in the fields of engineering, business administration, media/entertainment, interdisciplinary sciences, and health and individual performance through the two-pronged focus of globalizing our educational model and maintaining continual industry relevance.’ Their vision on the other hand is ‘To empower people and advance global prosperity through inventive, industry-linked Silicon Valley education.’ …show more content…

It lacks clarity as it is hard to comprehend what the institution gears to achieve. This is because it combines many elements together and it is too long. Moreover, it does not identify the audience of their purpose, and it assumes that the audience can be identified by the reader, which is not the case, especially when it is not read in the context of the institution. The mission statement therefore should incorporate the name of the institution. However the mission is well structured as it is clear and concise. In addition, it states the institutions aspirations and highest values. Moreover, it creates a visual image of the institutions aspirations that includes empowering people and advancing global prosperity.
