“Elder abuse is the harm to an older adult that is an intentional act by a caregiver or another person.” All the time I see videos where the elderly are being mentally and physically abused. It makes my stomach turn. I see these videos and ponder about how anyone could do this to another human being; the elderly are people, they have stories. Stories that should be told and loved rather than ignored and pushed away. I question how a person could stand hurting a person incapable of standing up for themselves. They have no voice, and no other way to protect themselves. They lay there, helpless, when they try to resist they are overpowered almost every time. My Papaw means the world to me, although he is almost 1,500 miles away, he still has a huge part of my heart. I am grateful everyday that my family in Tennessee takes care of him, instead of sending him away or hiring someone to take care of him. If I ever found out he was being abused, I do not know what I would do. My Papaw has done so much for our country, his family, his friends, and he has achieved so much in life and for him to be neglected or abused makes my blood boil. His life means something, to him and everyone around him. If you're ever down, he will always pick you up. The hillbilly laugh can brighten anyone's day, and just the mere thought of him being hurt makes me tear up. My Pawpaw has taught me so much about life, and about how not everything turns out the way you may of hoped.
