“Standard #3: Learning Environments: The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.” (Council of Chief State School Officers, 2011).
Standard three of the InTASC standards is one that stood out to me; it encompasses not only the importance of a positive classroom environment, but also the key topics of why motivation and discipline are necessary. In our readings, the authors address how to successfully motivate students with various recommendations for teachers to successfully motivate students in their classroom. Some of these recommendations included “attracting and maintaining students’ attention…personalizing content through real-world applications…promoting student success…and involving students” (Kauchak & Eggen, 2011). As I finish assignments, I can check them off the list and watch my work load lessen before my eyes. Along with self-motivation, I instill disciple upon myself. If I do not finish a goal by my goal time, I do not allow myself to take time to do extracurricular activities. I do think it is very important to take breaks and take time to cool down from a stressful assignment, but I do not let myself take an unreasonable amount of time doing activities that will not be
