This semester I have been researching Islam in the United States. It has been interesting to learn about the worldviews the Islam religion holds. In the past couple of weeks I dug deeper into issues that every religion faces. Throughout this paper I am focusing on how Islam’s core teachings intersect with concerns about Justice, poverty, gender roles, environmental issues, and how inclusive or exclusive the the Islamic religion appears to be.
Peace and Justice seem to be a major topic of any religion. The Islamic religion really values the idea of Justice. Justice is the central theme and basic objective within the Islamic religion. It originally grabbed my attention because out of all my world travels Assisi Italy has been my absolute favorite place to visit. In 1986 the president of WWF International invited the leaders of the five major world religions to Assisi Italy to discuss how their five faiths together could together help save the natural world. It was interesting to learn what the Islam statement was within the declaration. Muslims believe Allah is unity and his unity is reflected in several ways, one being the unity between nature and humans. As a follower of the Islam religion you are responsible for assisting in this unity. Many religions have festivals where they give thanks for the harvest of the world. Muslims however do not have one specific day in which they give thanks because they believe in giving thanks regularly to Allah for his creation. Muslims feel they are very responsible towards the world and the environment, therefore when there is problems it is their job to step up and help.
