Do you like to watch children murder each other in a deathmatch? Well boy do I have the book for you. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a story about 24 children who are forced into an arena to kill each other. 2 children are chosen from each district to compete and our main character Katniss volunteers for her sister to compete in the games. Peeta is chosen from the same district. She trains alongside Peeta before they are both thrown into the arena. Katniss, having years of experience taking care of herself, is able to live through the first couple of days and outsmarts her opponents until she finally obtains a bow, the weapon she is skilled at using. Later, the Avox girl forgives Katniss, knowing that if she helped her she would have been captured too. “But I know that my apology runs much deeper. That I'm ashamed that I never tried to help her in the woods. That I let the capitol kill the boy and mutilate her without lifting a finger.”(85) She feels like she owes the Avox because she felt that she could have done something to stop her from getting captured and losing her friend. But in the end, the Avox forgives Katniss for not helping her. This last instance of owing someone is how Thresh owed Katniss so he saved her life.In chapter 15, Katniss teams up with Rue. Katniss and Rue get close to each other and when Rue dies Katniss is distraught because she was friends with Rue. When Katniss is about to be killed by Clove, Thresh tackles and kills Clove. He doesn’t kill Katniss, however, because he wants to make it even with her because she helped take care of Rue.“Just this one time, I let you go. For the little girl who loves to play.
