The police have a vital role in monitoring and ensuring the laws of the community are upheld however, institutional norms and values can severely impact the success of these operations. Police culture and the perceived values associated within the institution can subjugate members of the community and restrict their rights. Police culture is depicted as a series of values acquired through on the job socialisation and plays an essential role in predicting an officer’s behaviour (police at work). These values and attitudes enforced within the institution allow for similar standards and practices to be implemented within the country (police at work). The authors’ book uses the interviewees’ stories to explore and explain their views of how as people think about the law. They boiled these views into three attitudes called “Before the Law”, “With the Law”, and “Against the Law”. The chapters used several legal terms to further explain these attitudes and several another core concepts to explain their points. To gain a better understanding behind the authors’ reasoning and research, we need to explore and define these terms. One of the most important terms to understand is legal consciousness as the term is use by the authors to organize legal consciousness into three categories known as “Before the law,” “With the Law,” and “Against the Law.”
It’s the duty of subjects from a particular niche to abide by the rules put in place by authority. Laws that are implemented in a proper manner maintain order and organization of the community. The main objectives as to why people obey the laws are to avoid the consequences that come along with breaking the laws, benefit from the course of obeying the law, and the fact that the authority is powerful and at the same time it complies with the law set in place. Laws that require individuals to commit grossly immoral actions can be described as brutal and cannot be justified.
The “Law Enforcement” Model was a method used by police where the only responded to calls made about major crimes and the NYPD were not very involved in the community. After complaints of disorder in the the city the NYPD began implementing the Quality of life Approach into their systems, which involved tactics such as stop and frisk, zero tolerance, creation of new law, and increase of police presence on the street. Another reason for the taking this approach was because of the broken window theory, which stated low presence/repercussion from police to small crimes will lead to larger/violent crimes. Basic Law Enforcement Training, is an adult education program offered on the campus of Davidson County Community College (DCCC), located on Thomasville, North Carolina. I have chosen to focus program visit on this particular program as it brings many unique and innovative pedagogies together to insure the highest quality graduates. As a Type II provider, this institution has a variety of resources to draw from in terms of both student and faculty. The ability to utilize the resources of the traditional college environment as well as integrating an active practical proficiency relying adjunct faculty from multiple law enforcement agencies.

Is to positively work with the people in the community to give them an understanding of what the law enforcement profession is all about. The leaders can use the media to show the people of the community what the officers go through with the training the agency provides. The officers should be put through there paces of different defense tactics training, firearms and driving training. Have the media ask the officers to describe what they did and why.

Some differences that distinguish law are: a law is defined as a systematic body of rules that governs the whole society and the actions of its individual members. The law consists of a set of rules and regulations. the law is created by the government, which may be local, regional, national, or international. The law is expressed in the constitution in a written form.
A law to all, is mandatory. A law to many, is controversial. A law to some, is optional. A law to few, is never going to be broken. Currently, people take the law into their own hands.
Robbery, murder, and abuse are all horrendous actions that could occur within society without the work of law enforcement. However, within our current society, many individuals criticize the work of police departments around the world. While policemen put their lives at risk every day in order to provide communities with the feeling of safety and protection, people are constantly insulting the police force for mistakes made by a small amount of a law officers. Members of law enforcement deserve respect for the amount of hard work and danger that they endure in order to promote better communities, and you can help provide policemen with the kindness to which they are owed by participating in National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
