Leonardo Da Vinci, painter, architect, inventor, and master of all things scientific. Da Vinci grew up in Vinci, Italy where he developed a love for nature and began to exhibit artistic talents. In 1466, he moved to Florence where he entered Verrocchio's workshop. Throughout the years he made his career as a painter; however, he began to lose interest in the hobby. Resulting in Leonardo moving to Milan in 1482, to share his ideas for military warfare with Ludovico Sforza.
Ludovico Sforza was fascinated by Leonardo da Vinci's sketches and ideas for military instruments. These designs included da Vinci's famous Giant Crossbow and Armoured Car. At the very end of speaking about new ideas of military devices, Leonardo mentioned that he was also a painter. The mention of this resulted in da Vinci's famous works, Lady with an Ermine; painting of Ludovico's mistress Cecilia Gallerani. Leonardo was not excited to paint this; nonetheless, he knew it would give him the opportunity to distribute more ideas for military devices. Sforza commissioned da Vinci to sculpt a horse in 1482, known as the Gran Cavallo. He studied horses to have accurate measurements to the spacing between different areas of a horse. Metal was a limited material at the time, which resulted in the duke having to select between canon balls or Leonardo's horse. The metal ended up being used to produce canon balls, ending Leonardo's project.
