Listening to Mr. Gibson speak of his vast knowledge of being an educator was an enlightening experience. It was interesting to compare his view points and opinions to Mr. Cole’s. Through time, teaching has a great capability of bettering one, as a person and as a professional. Mr. Gibson, being an teacher for many years, discussed the values on being a teacher and the life lessons that you obtain through this profession. His wisdom was evident and his messages were well received. Mr. Gibson explained to the class that he has had the opportunity to work in numerous fields, outside of teaching. Within teaching, he is certified to teach 6 different types of classes. He followed this opinion by enthusiastically affirming that teaching is by far his favorite job. His reason for this is simply that he enjoys helping people. Personally, I agree with Mr. Gibson that “there is no advantage in knocking people down”. Possibly, he was first viewed as ‘strict’ because he didn’t have the skills and techniques that he now obtains. He informed us that being manipulative while teaching can actually help gain students’ attention and work to inhibit negative behavior. Some students misbehave to catch the attention of the teacher and their peers. By ignoring that type of behavior and praising the well-behaved students, the student who is acting out will ultimately catch on. Interactions at home play a large role in behavior at school, which is why its important to be sensitive toward students. Having an awareness of how to act, in regards to reprimanding, is vital, though failing to correct poor behavior is something of great capability of affecting the entire class’s academic
