Classroom and School Rules, Management and Procedures Plan All schools have rules and regulations that the students have to follow regardless of if the school is a private school, public school, middle school, or high school. These school rules and procedures are in place to help the school run smoother and to keep everyone safe. Although most schools have different rules, procedures, and ways of handling situations, they are all in place to insure the safest environment possible. When you dig deeper into the school, you may also find that classrooms also have rules. Teachers are reliable for creating their own classroom rules if they want to be more specific than just following the rules that the school board has created. My practicum is …show more content…

Mrs. Lawrence created a syllabus that contains all of the rules and responsibilities for the students for her recourse classroom. One section of the syllabus that stood out to me most was under “Areas of Study”. This section has four parts to it and the first part is what drew my attention. “Each student will get familiar with his/her IEP and help monitor goals” (this is highlighted in the attached documents). This stood out to me because I think it is not only up to the teacher to be responsible for everything on the students IEP, but also for the student to know their goals and what they are striving for. The resource period is a time for the students to catch up on late work, finish work they didn’t get done that day, or to make up assignments they may have missed. When students come into this class, they will come in quietly and sit in their seats. The students must be working on something that they were told to finish by a teacher. If a student needs materials, they will get them individually at the beginning of class, or if they are already working they will raise their hand and ask a teacher if they can get whatever it is they need. Once a student is done with the work that they are supposed to finish, they will turn it into one of the classroom teachers for credit and then continue to work on something else that is assigned to them. Mrs. Lawrence has set up a Token economy system for the classroom. This is an example of positive reinforcement. In the syllabus for the resource classroom, is a list of everything that a student can do to gain money and everything a student can do to lose money. Money will be rewarded in different increments based on what it is the student has done. Some of the positive behaviors that will earn the students money are: “A” papers, “B” papers, “C” papers, volunteering in class, good report from teacher, and good referral. These actions will earn the student anywhere from 1-5 dollars. Some of the negative behaviors that will lose the students are: tardy to class, not in class, bad report from teacher, off task, inappropriate language/noises, sleeping, and a bad referral. These actions will cause the students to lose anywhere between 1-10 dollars. I have also been asked to make notes on which students have been behaving and have been coming to class prepared and which students have not. For example, if Jane Doe does not have her pencil and asks me if she can have one, I will give her one. After giving Jane Doe the pencil, I will then let Mrs. Lawrence know that Jane was unprepared for class and needed a pencil. Once I let Mrs. Lawrence know, she will take away a dollar from Jane for being unprepared for class and not having all her materials. This also solidifies my position as a teacher in the classroom
