Dear Jury Members: Mr. Bennett should be found not guilty of murder because there is reasonable doubt. Although the prosecution claims he is guilty, they are incorrect because Mr. Alfaro was pouring a cup of coffee before Mr. Adams came in, Mr. Adams had trouble with his eyesight so he could have accidentally put rat poison in instead of sugar, and Mr. Bennett touched the coffee when he went to get Mr. Adams pulse. To begin, it wasn’t just Mr. Bennett’s fingerprints on the cup, Mr. Alfaro’s was, too. He also is an exterminator and the rat poison is only available to exterminators. He was found pouring a cup of coffee 5 minutes before Mr. Adams died. He was spending a lot of time with Mrs. Reid and she was the one who brought Mr. Alfaro to the party. First, Mr. Alfaro’s fingerprints were also found on the cup of coffee. The rat poison that was found in the coffee is only available to exterminators, and he is one. Miss Singleton found Mr. Alfaro in the kitchen pouring some coffee about five minutes before Mr. Adams went to get sugar for his coffee. Swanson confirmed that Mr. Adams had bad eyesight. The box of rat poisoning was located in the cupboard right next to the box of sugar. The boxes are the exact same color and size. Mr. Adams has bad eyesight so he could have mistaken the box of rat poison for the sugar. Secondly, Mrs. Swanson told the authorities that Mr. Adams struggled with his eyesight and had a hard time reading labels. Rat poison was found in the kitchen cupboard, right next to a box of sugar.
