I believe in creating a safe, supportive and respectful learning environment that is organized and purposed. My classes follow procedures and policies that are clear, understood and supported by students holding each other accountable. They are created with consideration, and contribution, of students for consistency and safety. Having recognized, mutually agreed on, routines allows for the smooth integration of unique learning activities and teaching methods that support student differentiation and diversity within the boundaries of a recognized and practiced infrastructure. Students know what they are learning with displayed and spoken objectives, how they are going to be accomplishing and demonstrating them with examples and when they will be learning them with an agenda so they can manage their time …show more content…

Success in my classes is demonstrated by not giving up on ourselves—always striving to improve and learning why if there is a lack of understanding so we can face the next challenge that will inevitably face us. I explain and model that fair does not always mean equal in our class or in the world. I demonstrate a “seek to understand” approach before questioning them and encourage them to feel comfortable advocating for themselves in a professional and polite manner. I am transparent in my teaching style and believe in seeking feedback from students on how to improve lessons and activities. Sometimes, if an activity is not contributing to their learning effectively we, as a class, will reflect on our objective and seek another how to get there. I want to show students that adapting to circumstances to achieve a goal is a beneficial practice and that flexibility is an asset not a weakness.
