Philosophy of Education Teaching a student is far more than just passing on knowledge. Being an educator means providing a positive environment and creating experiences that will facilitate learning as well as improve students’ social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. As a future early education educator, I want to challenge and help my diverse students reach their full potential. I will accomplish this by differentiating instruction to accommodate each of my students’ learning styles. Simultaneously, I will encourage student-center instruction because I believe that children learn best from each other. I strongly believe that children learn as they purposefully play. During this time, I will scaffold my students by asking them open-ended and/or challenging questions. I will provide my students resources to help them answer these questions. I want to teach and encourage my students how to make decisions, therefore, I will allow them to choose the center they want to go to and/or activity they want to do during play time. Doing so, will help my future students and myself discover what they enjoy and what they don’t like at all. I want my students to learn to respect each other, specially if it is an inclusive classroom. My goal is to set simple but clear expectations in my classroom and reinforce positive behaviors with positive statements and small rewards. During dilemmas, I will work with each student and help them become conscious of their actions. Then, I will work with the child or group of children to find a solution to the issue at hand. Skinner introduced behaviorism into the education field. Strain and McConnell (1992) state that behaviorism is “deterministic, that a given stimulus always produces a particular response” para. 6). In early childhood education, this theory emphasizes that the consequence of a certain learned behavior can discourage or reinforce it. I would implement behaviorism in my classroom by implementing a reward system. In my reward system, the students would receive tickets for being on task, being kind to their peers, sharing, listening, and so on. At the end of the week, they would exchange these ticket for several items in the classroom treasure box. This system would encourage students to behave in an appropriate manner. However, tickets would be deducted if the students continually engage in disruptive behaviors. Furthermore, I could reinforce good behavior by utilizing positive statement, such as “I see you are seated correctly and doing your work.” However, I would be careful not to praise my students because this could create
