My Experience Of Working At Green Oaks Elementary School

Throughout this last quarter, I have been completing my required community service hours at Green Oaks Elementary School. I decided to take the community service class offered at Casa Roble High School instead of completing the required 60 hours on my own time. I have been working hands on with students on campus. Most of my time is spent assisting Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Surratt’s kindergarten classes. Even though working with children this young may be difficult, I have learned many important things myself. Working at Green Oaks Elementary, you are placed into a certain job, like a Yard Duty, a teacher’s assistant, or a custodian's assistant. I was placed as a teacher’s assistant in the P.M. Kindergarten class, where I work for Mrs. Myers. With this job I got to work one-on-one with students and help with their development. While working at Green Oaks I have gained the fulfillment of working with young children and contributing to my community. A high of my community service would be the bond I have formed with the children I work with. Everyday when I walk in I am greeted with smiling faces and excited students. I believed that working in this classroom would be a greater challenge than it has been. I did not believe that I would be able to adapt to this environment as quickly as I did. Even though I was new to this school, and to working with young children I learned how to act around them. However, the hardest part of working at Green Oaks is discipling the students and telling them that they need to completely redo a project or rewrite their sentences. I gained patience over the last term, and I have never been a very patient person. However, I have learned the importance of having
