My Leadership Philosophy

In every business owners day to day leadership comes in to play. Others are always going to look to you for guidance. I know that I have some great leadership qualities however; I know I have some areas that need improvement. In module one I identified these areas and they are maintaining a boss mentality, disciplinary actions as well as, balancing an open line of communication. I know that if I work on these areas that I will become the best leader within any organization. As a leader I know leading by example help avoid some of the discipline measures however it is not going to make it go away. I am going to have to learn that just because I show that every action has a consequence that it does not make me a tyrant. For example, I know some managers believe if you mess up they will just continually give you a write up. However I as a leader will challenge the process and change the norm and go back train this employee so we can see were we went wrong in the development because if one person is constantly making the same mistake they must not know any different. Also another thing that will help me take disciplinary measures as a leader would be leading by example so that the team will be encourage to achieve a common goal. This is were enabling others to act come into play, if my employees trust me and I treat them as people first and employees second I believe they will know that if I take a corrective measure that I am not coming from a bad place. As a leader and challenging the process it is important to remember that your subordinates are people as well and they’re not perfect. Keeping open communication is important and it evolves situation by situation. There is no one-way to communicate with every single person every single situation. Sometimes as a leader you have to go against what would normally expected and put yourself out there as a person. For example, you have a an employee that is always bubbly and happy and you notice that one week in a row she is very down and not like her self. I would put myself out there as a leader and take the time to pull her aside to talk to her and see what is going on. Even though this a personal conversation I would like my employees to come and talk to me if it is something that I can help and so it does not effect their ability to work. Keeping an open line of communication while enabling others to act goes hand in hand. In my opinion if you communicate with other employees the importance of keeping the lines of communication open with each others is will help build team moral. For example the same girl that used to be happy is not acting like herself but does not feel comfortable going back to the leader for help might feel comfortable going to her peers. This will also help build trust all around between her and the boss and her and other employees. It is important to me
