My Leadership Philosophy

When I envision a leader, I think of passion, strength, commonality, values and a voice. In my eyes, a leader needs to contain all of these qualities in order to be considered a leader. I further describe my concept of a leader throughout the rest of this discussion. Leaders are model citizens that set examples and inspire the people around them. Leaders set examples by demonstrating how people should act and how one should treat other people through one’s behavior. In other words, leaders model the way that people should act on a day to day basis while striving to attain their goals and change their future. Leaders also model the way by establishing credibility. Their credibility stems from standing up for what they believe in and by motivating others to do the same. Leaders are capable of creating a path in order for individuals to find their own way to their goals, one step at a time. Leaders persuade and inspire a shared vision with other individuals by promoting a clear vision with their thoughts, beliefs and values. My leader and I both share an intertwined vision through common aspirations and goals for our futures. Furthermore, if there was not a commonality that I could embrace along with other people then I would be less likely to be involved, admire or follow this specific leader. What separates one leader from the next leader is how they both approach their end goal. My leader accepts challenges and therefore challenges the process by experimenting with different approaches to change the existing conditions. I pursue this challenging path because it aligns with my ideas and values. Along with challenging the overall process, my leader also challenges my current mindset of how to approach my every day goals. My leader challenges this by providing me with new ideas, opportunities and innovations that are outside my status quo
