My Leadership Philosophy Essay

My definition of leadership is influencing others to active a goal. This means to guide people to gain something or solve a problem, this only works if the other wants to be guided. The second part of leadership is what your people do when you are not around. If people don’t want to be guided or lead, then they have to be managed. Managing a person takes more, of a hands on approach. With some time and effort you can switch back to guiding and leading.
I have had a lot of leadership influences in my career, some good and others not so good. I have always taken a lesson from the not so good. Everything I do is to better my family and to give my sons the tools and the skills to be successful. Each one of my three sons is different to motivate. My oldest, Aiden, is the easiest to motivate. All I have to do is show him some information and encouragement on the subject. I have influenced him to take up running and computers. At 15 he can run the mile in under 6 minutes and he has built his own computer. My second son, Aries, likes metal work. I am going to take a blacksmithing class with him. He is afraid to weld, but the blacksmithing might be way to lead him to weld. My third son, Avery, wants to be a doctor, so I try quizzing him on the bones of the human body. We talk about science a lot. One time I compared Pokémon to the bones in human body; that was an interesting conversation. I always tell my sons a saying that I heard in Yorktown. “Faster-Better- and More Often” is how you succeed in life. When Aries asked how this phase went this became a proud memory when I told him “Faster-Better- and More Often”.
