My Leadership Philosophy

Leadership is not only one definition because it may have different meanings for others. There are many philosophies one could use as guidance. The philosophy discussed in the lecture is known as R.I.C.E. or Reciprocal Individual & Community Engagement. Two main concepts that I learned were the concept of D.I.C.E. vs. R.I.C.E. and the concept of I vs. We. I felt inspired and motivated after learning about R.I.C.E. and First Day. The action I could take after are working towards a group friendly approach. The first concept significant to me that I learned in the lecture was the concept of D.I.C.E. vs. R.I.C.E.. is mainly focused on working with others while building relationships. This concept makes feel inspired because it shows how important and beneficial working collaboratively really is. Before learning about the concept in lecture, I was familiar with leadership being particularly directional instead of perceiving it as reciprocal. Also equally as important is the idea of working reciprocally or mutually. First Day is a great example of valuing Reciprocal Individual & Community Engagement with both relationship building and engagement. First Day standing by this philosophy of R.I.C.E keeps me motivated to take action and stand by the philosophy of R.I.C.E because of how effective it is. What makes me happy is the goal First Day attempts to achieve or hopes to achieve. First Day encourages others to replicate their model. They “look forward to seeing residents from all regions contributing and building their own healthy, safe, and vibrant communities”. The good part about taking action on a concept is that it shows that one is truly understanding the concept and has an attachment to the concept. The feelings of being inspired and motivated from the philosophy of R.I.C.E. really inspire me to attempt working in groups. To take action I will try to analyze the way I engage in groups. After working with a group or community I will decide if I was working reciprocally with other while participating in the engagement. I will also decide if I was closer towards adversarial or collaborative. It is good to note, neither adversarial nor collaboration are good or bad. Both are used more than the other depending on the
