Reflective Writing Assignment #2: Demian Rubalcaba At the beginning of the presentation, Demian told the class that he was a heroin and methamphetamine addict. Through his struggles with addiction, the field of social work began to become familiar to him and he began to gravitate toward that profession. Although he works with adolescents and young adults who struggle with addiction, he emphasized that having personal experience isn’t enough to help clients.
This semester was filled with many bumpy roads. I struggled in the beginning of the semester with my writings , as I didn 't feel confident enough to write a well developed writing. I seemed to find myself struggling whereas writing was not my favorable subject. The major errors I had in my writings this semester would be , grammatical errors, work citations, transition words, formatting ,paragraph development, sentence structure , and sentence level issue. Therefore I have set goals to improve my writing in the future.
Reflective Analytical Account. The aim of the lecture was to explore the role of Compassion within SCPHN practice. Throughout the session we followed and discussed the Francis Report, the Compassion In Practice (6C’s) strategy and the 2016 nursing strategy.
English 101 has taught me how to become a more professional writer. Throughout the semester I have learned how to write a critical, explanatory and an argumentative paper. The skills that I have learned such as MLA format, correct writing technique and so many other techniques have prepared me for the future with college classes and my future job. I have also learned how to use time wisely and work hard to get the assignment done. It is important to follow all instructions that are given so that one will fully understand what to do for the assignment.
My writing has gotten a lot better and I know this because my grades on writing assignments have gotten better. I had a lot of trouble with grammar at the beginning of the year. I believe that my grammar has improved. It might not be the best but it 's getting better.
In English 101 there was so much information that I learned and it helped develop my writing skills. As the class progressed, writing started to become easier and my papers sounded more mature. Finally writing at the appropriate level was just as fulfilling as receiving an A in the class. However, there is always room for improvement, especially when it comes to writing.
Describe your current primary responsibilities as they have changed over the past 2 weeks. My supervisor has assigned me more caseloads and had me to finish the documentations within a certain period of time after evaluations and treatment sessions. Briefly discuss the quality of your supervision. How has your supervision changed over the past 2 weeks (consider factors including the frequency of your meetings, the severity of the clients’ conditions, and your abilities)?
At the beginning of the school year, I would consider my writing very strategic and organized. Freshmen year, I was taught to use the “evidence sandwich”, and continued to use that structured outline throughout the next few years. This year, my writing has shifted from being very structured to being a little bit more personalized. I began to incorporate a lot of my opinions and understandings into my writing pieces instead of sticking to the facts like I was taught to in past years. Looking back at my essays from this year, I can see a clear difference in quality between the topics that I enjoyed and the ones I didn’t.
The writing project that I feel I learned the most was the letter I sent to President crow about my proposal of opening a puppy play pen in the library. With this project I learned how to put a business letter in a good format, as well as using explicit word choice and know when and how to use specific words. This skill is really important because appealing to the reader with exact word choice and make or break any deal thsat you have going on. Also the workshops and fastwrites during class also helped me a lot as well. The ones that helped the most were the fastwrites.
Assignment 1: Reflective Assignment The Media has an immense impact on the psychosocial development in children (Canadian Paediatric Society, 2003). This is because they are “powerful teachers”, television shows like Sesame Street can provide important lesson and information to children on words, simple arithmetic, cooperation and other significant lessons (Canadian Paediatric Society, 2003). However, vice-versa is true as well, as such media platforms can produce stereotypes by portraying a group, race or other types of catalogs of identities with narrow ideas, like the Indigenous population. These stereotypes labels are thieves, uneducated, addicted to drugs and alcohol, criminals and more (Buzzfeed Australia, 2015).
I have always found writing hard but now I enjoy it more. I 'm not going to lie and say that it 's easy for me because it 's hard. I get lost with my thoughts a lot. What I say sounds way better then when I put it down on a paper. I have been wanting to write a small book of something.
When it comes to writing I have always struggled forming the ideas in my head into actual sentences. The modules that we have worked on have made me realize that a lot of writers struggle with the same problem. I had always figured that my ideas would come across as long as I understood them unfortunately I was wrong. At first, while I was working on these modules I thought that the work we were doing was not going to be of any help to me.
There was a young boy at the Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children; Wyndell, who made a notable impact on my continued interest in pursuing a career in the physical therapy field. I was a volunteer at Kapi’olani for 9 months and experienced shadowing patients who had a range of diagnosis including osteosarcoma, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders, but one case that sparked my passion was a child with encephalitis. Wyndell was only 13 years old and had been diagnosed with encephalitis, which is acute inflammation of the brain caused either by infection or the immune system attacking brain tissue. I met Wyndell when his spirit was down. He did not have the normal high energy level that you would expect from most teens at age 13.
On Friday, October 20th, I participated the writing workshop #WhyIWrite located at the Campus Center 2nd floor in school. I spent about an hour half to do some writing in the Campus Center. Since that day was National Day of Writing, this workshop was extremely meaningful for us to participate in. I think writing is important in many different ways. It is the primary basis upon which our work, learning, and intellect will be judged—in college, in the workplace, and in the community.
All writers are supposed to have a writing process. However, most people these days don't have a process for their writing. From this course and from the article, I learnt that the process of writing is crucial for writing. In addition, it seems that the main responsibility falls on the traditional method of teaching writing, which largely ignores the writing process.
